Would you like to perfect your Harry Potter-themed wedding by actually being married by a Harry Potter actor? If so, read on for some ideas!
Back in 2007, I had the absolute pleasure of appearing in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Being on set, surrounded by that extraordinary world, left a spark of magic that’s never left me. Now, I bring that same enchantment to every wedding I officiate—especially for couples who feel the pull of the wizarding world.
If you’re dreaming of a wedding that feels like it stepped right out of the pages of Harry Potter, Scotland offers a spellbinding array of locations. Here are some of my favourite venues and backdrops where I’ve helped couples conjure unforgettable wedding days:
Filming Locations & Mystical Landscapes
1. Glenfinnan Viaduct & Loch Shiel
You’ll recognise it instantly—the iconic bridge the Hogwarts Express crosses on its way to school. Standing beneath the sweeping arches or along the shores of Loch Shiel (the real Black Lake) is nothing short of cinematic. I’ve had the honour of marrying couples here in intimate ceremonies with that unmistakable Scottish magic swirling all around.
2. Glen Coe & The Clachaig Inn
One of the most atmospheric locations I’ve ever visited—and featured in The Prisoner of Azkaban, near where Hagrid’s hut was filmed. Glen Coe is brooding, beautiful, and utterly otherworldly. The nearby Clachaig Inn adds a cozy, rustic charm for a reception that feels like you’ve stumbled into The Three Broomsticks.
3. Loch Eilt
Used as Dumbledore’s resting place, Loch Eilt is quiet, reflective, and deeply moving. Ideal for couples who want a secluded ceremony with profound symbolism—and yes, I’ll bring the gravitas (and perhaps a few tales from set).
Wizarding-World Inspired Venues
The Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh
It was in this very hotel that J.K. Rowling penned the final words of the series. The J.K. Rowling Suite offers a literary atmosphere and luxury fit for a magical union. A perfect place to start your own story.
Killiechassie House, Perthshire
This enchanting estate was once home to J.K. Rowling herself. Imagine saying your vows surrounded by the same trees and hills that inspired parts of the wizarding world. It’s secluded, private, and steeped in a very special kind of magic.
Other Enchanting Spots for Potter-Inspired Nuptials
Loch Morar – Known for its role as part of Hogwarts Lake. Quiet and powerful, perfect for an intimate ceremony.
Loch Arkaig – As seen in dragon flight sequences, it’s wild and awe-inspiring.
Rannoch Moor – Where the Death Eaters attacked the Hogwarts Express. It’s vast, dramatic, and windswept—perfect for a couple unafraid to be bold.
A Ceremony With a Wee Bit of Movie Magic
Now, here’s where things get truly unique—because when you book me as your wedding celebrant, you’re not just getting someone who loves Harry Potter… you’re getting someone who was in Harry Potter. I bring not only the warmth and authenticity of a trained celebrant, but the insider stories and wizarding reverence that fans can truly appreciate.
Whether you’re dressed in robes, carrying handmade wands, or simply want a heartfelt ceremony with a whisper of Hogwarts in the air, I’ll make sure your day is rich in wonder, meaning, and a wee bit of that on-screen sparkle.
If you’re planning a wedding that’s equal parts heartfelt and magical, I’d be honoured to help you craft the perfect spell. Please do get in touch for a no-obligation quote, and to see if we’re a fit to work together.
